Why Mutsuki was called a Tadpole in the Sea

kanekikenunot:

So, yeah I’m not going to be talking about anything nice in this meta, so this is fair warning, but it’s kind of hard to talk about anything pleasant. I would like to disclaim that I don’t agree with anything that happened in this chapter I’m just trying to explain it. I censored the pictures I used only text boxes but the things I talk about are still serious things that happen in the chapter

snarky-gourmet:

Alright, since I’ve already recieved a few messages on the matter (which is fine, of course– if you were polite), I thought I would address many of the questions asked in a single post, as they are all related.

First of all:
I understand many of you are upset, unhappy, or are feeling other negative emotions towards the events that were revealed in this chapter. While you have a right to you emotions, DO NOT send hate to Ishida. Don’t do it. Why? Because this is his story. He is in charge of all the happenings and all of the characters. Not us. We are the audience. If you want control over characters and a story, make your own.

Now on to my main points:
Were the events that happened between Mutsuki and Torso transphobic?
*NO*
Here’s why:
-While it is very likely that Mutsuki is trans, eastern views on the matter differ from western ones. Until we get absolute confirmation on this matter from Ishida himself, it could go either way. However, since Mutsuki requested to be viewed as a male and presents as male, we should all respect this. Also, if it’s revealed that Mutsuki is not trans, don’t send Ishida hate. Once again: his story. Not yours.
-The implications of rape were extremely, extremely high– I would even say it’s practically confirmed. Rape is beyond awful, humiliating, and one of the worst things that could ever happen. It leaves the victim scarred and can ruin lives. It knows no gender. It can happen to anyone sadly, and that’s the bitter reality. Therefore, Mutsuki possibly getting raped is not transphobic. If anything, I’d say that Ishida is showing the exact opposite views. So often is male rape overlooked and ignored by society, but he is possibly shining a light on this. He is not doing it in a disrespectful way, either. *Just because Torso is a character created by Ishida, this does NOT mean that Ishida shares the same views as Torso, nor does this mean that he condones his actions.*

There are extremely adult situations handled in Tokyo Ghoul and this means that the content will not always sit well with everyone. If that’s the case for you, you have options!
-Don’t read the chapters with sensitive material
-Ask someone to give you a censored summary of the chapter/censored version of the pages
-Evaluate if you should be reading something that upsets you so much
-Etc.

Here’s what not to do:
-Attack and lash out at others in any way, shape, or form
-Send hate to Ishida, the creator of the events and characters in his own manga that he has decided to share with us, the audience/contact Ishida regarding the chapter before the official release in Japan because we get these scans illegally

Please be mature about this.

*DISCLAIMER*: In no way do I condone Torso’s actions. In no way do I condone assault of any type. In no way do I condone any sort of transphobia.

Mutsuki’s hair is not white.

image

This is Mutsuki’s hair now VS. Mutsuki’s normal hair. It’s lighter but his hair’s not white. Mutsuki’s hair is still slightly darker than his skin tone.

image

Mutsuki’s skin tone is darker than Kaneki, and yet his hair looks darker in comparison to his skin than Kaneki’s did, that would make no sense if Mutsuki’s hair was white. His hair should look lighter than his skin if it is actually white. If anything Mutsuki’s hair looks like it could be Yomo gray maybe.

coromoor:

Could the flowers associated with Mutsuki this chapter be Deadnettle?

Although not related, they have a similar appearance to Stinging Nettle but do not sting, hence they are ‘dead’. The sting is a defence mechanism for the plant so you can probably guess how this might relate to Mutsuki, who has given up on defending himself and accepted his ‘destiny’ :

And thoughts? I’m no botanist!
