Am I the only one who finds the way Arima leans back in confusion when Haise tries to come closer too him both adorable and hilarious? (X)
“What is this? why does he do this?”
Arima was not prepared for fatherhood.
(On a more serious note, it kind of reminds me of his behavior in Jack. He sometimes seems uncertain of how to deal with Fura, especially when the other boy would stand up for him or help him. Like….what is this friendship thing? What is this Feel?)
Arima’s bookshelf gradually emptied, a mind gradually grew more sound.
A parent comforts a newborn baby who cries through the night by giving them warm milk to calm them. You comfort a newborn confused and fearful young adult who has nightmares and cries through the night with knowledge through books.
Arima: -helps Kaneki rehab because he’s literally destroying himself-
Fandom: “Arima is such an evil SOB look at him”
Hmm I wonder why it’s ok to adore and worship Eto, even ship etoken which is a now a popular fandom pairing yet….
You like Arima? Well he’s shit and he’s evil and no one should ever like him. Oh and you ship arisasa? Well you’re a horrible person that promotes abusive relationships.
Kaneki: -runs into the Anteiku Raid knowing full well he is going to die-
Arima: -follows orders that he must kill all ghouls who enter v14, and attempts to kill Kaneki quickly by having a mine explode (doesn’t work because of Kaneki’s crazy regeneration)-
Arima: -waits for Kaneki to gather his thoughts as he recites a poem and then fights him-
Arima: -takes Kaneki to Cochlea for an unknown reason (Arima wanted a quinque so why did he spare him)-
Arima: -sees Kaneki is literally destroying himself over something he couldn’t prevent and manages to stop his self-destructive tendencies-
(btw in rehab it usually isn’t “cutsie wootsie you’ll get better if you have positive thoughts” treatment, usually it’s pretty brutal and just laying down the facts so you can actual have a chance at recovering in the first place aka what Arima did this chapter)
Arima: -goes against an investigator’s values and continually visits an SS-rated ghoul by bringing him books and having conversations with him-
Arima: -despite having “ownership rights”, lets Kaneki choose his own name since he knows it’ll mean a lot to Kaneki-
Now fast forward 3 years and we see that their relationship has improved drastically
Here’s the dealio (and this isn’t solely directed at you anon I appreciate this message): Arima and Kaneki have one of the most complex relationships in TG. I see the (tumblr) fandom fawning over how much other characters and their relationships with Kaneki have changed, but in the same breath the fandom will condemn Arima (who is arguably pretty tragic in his own right) for any movement/action that he does
(Try going into the Arima tag every time Arima appears in :re the hate is ridiculous)
Is Arima a morally righteous character? Not really. He’s a man who has never had any agency in his life and is the perfect tin soldier for the CCG. He follows orders to a T and has never even had a taste of control (up until he met Kaneki however)
But then you see the people who hate Arima and call out falsities in his character loving on other characters who portray the exact same traits that they condemn Arima for (coughShuucoughFurutacoughcough)
(and it’s funny because Shuu and Furuta do it for fun while Arima does it because it’s his job lmao)
(I did this by tracing Santana from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, wanted to get an idea on how to properly draw in that style, and then this idea came to me).
