Not everything a DM tries works out as intended. Sometimes a story arc falls flat, or a little extra description causes the party to halt for a few hours to fiddle with a rock…. it happens.

I was in a Lovecraftian GURPS campaign set in UK in the 1980s that ground to a halt for a solid hour because one of the players was adamant that we calculate the exact cost of plane tickets for our team.

Truly, rules lawyers are an eldritch abomination.

lifehack if the players are obsessed with something give it to them. Often a small interesting answer will make them stop faster than a hundred boring ones.

once my players rifled through some dead goblins’ clothes and i didnt expect that (dumb, i know) so i put a “very smooth pebble” in a pocket and the players were so interested in it they almost started a fight over it

i was one of the players and we were valid

very early in my campaign – like, 2 or 3 sessions in – the party went to explore a shipwreck. among the loot in the wreck was a black marble statue of a goddess called Blibdoolpoolp. I found her name in a list of d&d deities and thought she sounded cool. her domain is crustaceans and madness, which fit with the overall tone of my bullshit campaign, so I threw her in for a bit of ~flavor~

the party got… attached.

they lugged that statue back with them when they left the shipwreck, even though they were being chased by a sea serpent. they brought it back to the inn where they were staying. in-character, they started seeking out all the information they could about this silly throwaway goddess.

out of character, they started flooding the group chat with lobster memes.

eventually – and I mean, like, several months later – I just gave in and let them have a whole adventure fighting a cult that worked for Blibdoolpoolp, defeating the cult, and letting them take over as Blibdoolpoolp’s primary worshippers. she’s their patron deity now and showers them with crustacean-themed blessings.

reblog to be showered by crustacean-themed blessings

“crustaceans” is an INCREDIBLE domain, what powers do you get as a cleric if you take the crustaceans domain

crab hands

just crab hands but they’re real good at pinching

Terry Crews of Brooklyn 99 gives the best advice on physical fitness.

Seriously, his Reddit AMA is the most genuinely upbeat, positive actor interview ever. Another great bit:

To be honest, this was the healthiest advice for getting into working out I’ve ever read, and it really was the inspiration for me to start running and going to the gym.

No judgement, no “you need to be doing this” mess. Just a simple “do what you can. and feel comfortable”

In the new Mary Queen of Scots trailer, I’ll willingly say the plot does not look historically accurate at all. However, I am very much enjoying how accurate the hairstyles and makeup seem to be. Okay, fine, in the time period plucking your hairline and caking your face in makeup was actually fashionable, and yet the movie is using it to make Elizabeth “ugly” (not that Margot Robbie could ever look ugly, but still). But the fact that those fashion styles are actually in there, even if they are included with an odd theme in mind, makes me happy. So few movies these days are willing to go the extra mile when it comes to *gasp* accurately depicting historical hairstyles. Audiences expect the actors to look “normal” and we’re definitely not used to plucking hairlines. I’m just glad its included at all.

If I may speak, I think that making Elizabeth ‘ugly’ in those scenes is a kind of symbolism of Elizabeth falling from grace on Mary’s eyes. Like, stopping being her friend and sister and more rival. And also can symbolize how Elizabeth tries to cover herself to not show her doubts and anxiety over another woman with an heir threatening her ruling. Costume designers use the clothes to show character development. Elizabeth seems more pretty in some scene that are maybe from the beginning of the movie and she goes more make up and “hidden” at the end.

I don’t mean this in a this ship vs that ship way, because it’s bigger than that, but I feel like more than anything S7 EP1 really finally showed that Keith is the greater love of Shiro’s life, even just as platonic friends. Like it wasn’t unintentional to parallel how Shiro’s ex-boyfriend treated him vs how Keith treated him, and it’s all about who could stay strong enough for Shiro. And yeah, loving Shiro and staying by his side clearly isn’t easy. We’ve seen that struggle for Keith over six seasons, and now we find out he was seriously ill and probably not going to last much longer. And he’s so worthy of someone fighting to love him and be there for him, but it’s a fight you gotta be willing to undertake.

But Adam wouldn’t do it for him. He gave up. And that’s okay, this isn’t me slandering him because I get it, he’s just an average person, and it’s hard to live through watching your boyfriend push himself to the brink of death and leave you behind. But Shiro needs that support, he needed someone to never ever give up on him because he can do it, he can survive and be stronger and be happy. And Keith NEVER gave up. This dude even fought death to bring Shiro back!!

And guess what?? Shiro could do it. He went to space, and he became a paladin and helped save billions of lives, including his own. Adam could have been there for Shiro, but he bailed. He didn’t have enough faith. And when you look at it from Shiro’s pov, staying with Adam would have meant unhappiness, sickness and eventual death for Shiro that he wouldn’t have come back from. But by letting Adam go and following his dream, even if it caused him more pain, also brought him a cure and a new, unconditionally loving family in Voltron. Yea I am very sad Shiro lost that beautiful relationship, but he would never have reached his full potential if he had stayed. It would’ve clipped his wings.

But like I said before, Keith was willing to fight. Shiro fought for him, so he returned the favour. Because he knew Shiro was great and amazing and deserved to follow his dreams without being made to feel guilty and selfish because Shiro WOULD pull through. There’s no doubt in Keith’s mind Shiro will always make it, that’s why he’s always searching for him and saving him even when it looks like there’s no hope. And we now see that the love that grew between them was so honest and supportive it even became stronger than what was between Shiro and the man he wanted to marry. I think Shiro absolutely knows this when he wakes up after he’s dreaming to see Keith still by his side. He’s probably known it all along. And man I’m so happy that after all that suffering Shiro went through, Keith was there to support him and help him become the man he was always supposed to be but couldn’t because his illness was stopping him. They really saved each other.
