i know it’s just a gameplay abstraction thing but i still think that the whole “trainer class” thing in Pokemon is funny

like imagine you’re a father and the nurse comes out and says “congratulations mr. philips, it’s a Hex Maniac” and they wheel out a baby with purple hair and swirly eyes and there’s already a ghost following it around

and you’re just like “welp, guess i’m not getting grandkids”

Setting aside the Hex Maniac salt issue from the comments, it’s actually a little more fun than this!  The characters change classes as they grow up.

Classes like “kindergartner,” “youngster,” and “schoolkid” are obviously temporary, and “swimmer” and “tuber” only last as long as they’re in that hobby. A couple Rising Stars mention the possibility of becoming Ace Trainers, and one Ace Trainer in SM says he won’t be an Ace Trainer forever, which is supported by a Veteran who mentioned he was once an Ace Trainer.  Pokemon aren’t the only ones who get to evolve, and aging isn’t treated as a bad thing!

The best one, though?  One opponent from the Battle Chateau proudly speaks of her transformation from a Black Belt to a Beauty.  🙂
