I don’t understand how some people are satisfied with the ending to 03fma???? Like??? Damn why y’all want those boys to suffer so much. Personally I think the ending to fma:b is so much more structured, well thought out and just… good. And happy. THOSE BOYS DESERVE TO BE HAPPY OKAY. Also Hiromu Arakawa is a goddess and her work is incredible.

My basic perspective of the 03 ending is that the Elrics live a full, albeit imperfect life. As a viewer, of course it’s bittersweet, but I have always felt that it fit the tone of the series and appropriately concluded the high stakes of their journey.

different stories have different endings

I prefer the story where Scar incinerates 7000 fascist soldiers instead of collaborating with the govt that exterminated his people ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i prefer the 03 ending because for me, the ending to brotherhood felt so perfect and happy to the point where it felt fake, like someone was going to be like ‘PSYCHE!’ which just left me feeling really incomplete. it also closed off everything too much for me in the last part and i felt suffocated. i feel more completeness from open-ended endings like in 03, where it’s more like ‘the adventure continues (and you as the audience get to write it!)”

and, yes, 03′s ending fit the tone of the series better. brotherhood had a very shiny tone with an ending to match. 03 had a gritty tone with an ending to match. i much prefer the gritty to the shiny in fma’s case since the laundry list of themes both series deal with are very heavy themes (so to me, fmab doesn’t feel as genuine, and more superficial, in handling those themes because of that ‘shininess’ and feeling of ‘we wanna have these heavy themes but lets keep our hands clean’ vs 03 feeling much more sincere because of the feeling of ‘this is going to get us and the viewers dirty but it needs to be addressed’)
