But they can do 1 of 2 things they could either

1. Report the money as stolen, in which case the mod would be in deeper shit than option 2. Since they stole more than 1000$ that’s Grand Theft , which they could plea to the 3rd degree which can serve a minimum of 5 years and a fine of 5000$. But if they didn’t take a plea deal worst case scenario they’ll get upwards of 30 years or more for Grand Theft in the first degree.

Option 2, involves them reporting it as stolen, but they’re either forced to take it to civil court or decide to take it to civil court on their on accord. Either way the judge wouldn’t approve of them spending 1400$ worth of merchandise, mysteriously, so the one that stole the money would be forced to pay the money, and be forced to go to jail, because they would be shown to commit a crime.

Either way they stole 1400$ FOR A FUCKING CARTOON.
