So, if you’ve ever doubted the influence of Creepy Marketing Guy, remember that generally family-friendly Nintendo has apparently decided that the best way to market Fire Emblem Heroes is to pitch it like… basically every other mobile fantasy game.

This is a real shame since Lucinda looks pretty good:

But apparently not in line with their goal of marketing it as “Mini-dresses, boobplate and garter-belts, the game”.

I’ve been thinking about this post for awhile now, and maybe it’s just me but… I’m not entirely understanding it? More specifically, I’m not understanding what it has to do with Heroes in particular, and not Fire Emblem as a whole.

There are wide spread problems with Fire Emblem female armor design as a whole (take a shot for every female character who refuses to wear pants), and problems specific to Heroes (i.e. the Spring outfits), but aside from Catria’s broken spine, I’m not seeing anything specific to Heroes here?

The Mobile phone calendar? That uses Cordelia’s art from Awakening, not Heroes. Lyn’s Brave Outfit? Yeah, she should be wearing pants while on a horse, but this was likely done not to differentiate her design too much from her regular outfit, and asymmetrical armor is practical when dealing with a weapon that you turn to the side to use, like bows and fencing swords. The starter support event? I already mentioned Catria’s poor spine, but their outfits aren’t that different from what they wear in their games.

What’s more, all of these ads are advertisements to things specifically relating to these characters. Cordelia is getting her calendar due to her placement in the CYL poll. Lyn is one of the four characters featured in the browser mini-game. Palla, Catria, and Est are three of the four votable options for the event. Of course they’re gonna promote those characters, why would they promote characters that have nothing to do with these events.

Again, this is not saying Heroes doesn’t have problems with female armor design, what I don’t get is why the marketing team is being singled out for this when, what the fuck else are they gonna do? If there’s something I’m missing here, please help me understand.
