The only reason they’re so adamant about this is because they know as soon as a term like “Photoshopping” becomes common vernacular, they lose all trademark rights to it and it becomes public domain.
It happened to words like “escalator” and “videotape” and “aspirin” and “laundromat” – at one point in their lives, they were all trademarked terms.
As soon as the word “photoshop” means “to manipulate a photograph” before it means “to use the Adobe Photoshop software”, Adobe loses the trademark on the word. Trademark law is a weird thing.
