play prepares you for your life. while my brothers got legos and toy cars, i was given barbies and makeup from claire’s. when my mom was teaching me how to match colors in an outfit, my brothers were learning simple fixes to common computer and car problems. while i was getting my ears pierced, my brothers were playing sports and learning how to play the drums. while i was in girl scouts learning how to sell cookies, my brothers were in boy scouts learning survival skills like tying knots and starting fires. to this day, if i have a car problem, i have to call one of my brothers to fix it because i never learned how as a child, but i know how to put on lipstick. boys are taught far more useful skills from childhood on than girls, and that is a huge problem.

😦 Ive always hated this, because as a kid and now, I was sooo willing to learn the “tough stuff” but it was always regulated to my baby brother. He may be taller than me now, but I’m physically stronger. He’s always been lazy, but is praised for even thinking about doing the hard work I do for the family without recognition.
