I image Hide was giving it his all to remain calm when he was down in the sewers and encountered Kaneki. Image the stress and anxiety he must have experienced, and not because of the possibility of being killed and eaten by Kaneki but because he found his best friend with a gaping wound on his side. I can’t even begin to image what terror Hide felt because image confronting your best friend you’ve been searching for months and you see him losing control and heavily wounded. It would take all of being to remain as calm as Hide did. He did his best to keep calm because if he panicked, Kaneki would have to and things would have gone bad. Hide was under intense pressure and it just shows how in control Hide is capable of being in tight situations, Hide mind is clear and focused and pushes aside his own worry so his friend isn’t affected
Hide has always pushed his feelings from what we know away for Kaneki. Even when they were kids he goes out of his way to make friends with the Kid that was always covered in bruises and never talked to anyone. Even though Hide knew he could be killed he still investigated Ghouls and all to (from speculation) help Kaneki fight one more time at the last moment. Hide loves him and that’s obvious, call it romantic or platonic but he has always helped Kaneki.
