And Arima got fed up with not being able to see Haise so he ended up calling Haise to his office under the pretense that it was about the Torso Incident
And Haise was scared of being reprimanded, and Arima quickly picked up on his unease and changed the subject to literature, something he knows Haise will feel more comfortable with (as Haise’s facial expression does relax)
And that’s when Arima kinda tries to be sly and tries to invite himself to the Chateau (since Arima spent a couple of months not seeing Haise/missing him)
There are two facets to this scene in general, one being their familial relationship that exists despite Haise’s species (and Arima’s general lack of empathy to ghouls like many investigators).
And then of course there’s the darker half presented as “A Crossbreed” and the moral it tells:
“perhaps the knife of the butcher would be a release for this animal; but as it is a legacy I must deny it that. So it must wait until the breath voluntarily leaves its body, even though it sometimes gazes at me with a look of human understanding, challenging me to do the right thing of which both of us are thinking.”
And instead of Arima letting his crossbreed rest, Haise understands that Arima will bring him back if he ever loses control again, like how Arima managed to rebuild him from Prisoner 240. Hence the black text:
“It’s alright… I can still fight. Even if I lose control, and can’t go back to [who I am now]… If it’s Arima. He’ll surely… [save me]”
Anyways Arima vying for Haise’s attention fuels me
Arima: -helps Kaneki rehab because he’s literally destroying himself-
