I have always foreshadowed Arima taking his own life or be killed by someone else, rather than being killed by Kaneki for a number of reasons. One of these is how careful Kaneki was in his battle against him… how gentle and respecting he was….
Even when he was being stabbed by Ixa, or slashed into pieces by Owl, he never attempted to charge at Arima’s body. He always aimed for the quinque. Not once did he aim for Arima’s actual body. This is one of the reasons which led Arima to taunt him during chapter 74.
Even when Arima lost all of his quinques.. Kaneki was so puzzled and hesitant to aim for his arm or leg.
At the end… if you compare Arima and Kaneki’s state… Arima never shed a sweat, or got a scratch. Not.a.single.scratch… unlike during V14.
Kaneki’s expression during this chapter was that of anguish and pain. He looked as if he is saying: give me a fucking break… After all… although he practically won… he lost. He failed to protect what was important to him.
It is worthy to note that, although Kaneki was stricken by Arima’s act and ran towards him.. he only started crying when he finally realized…
it’s not only him who thinks of this as a father-son relationship…
that Arima himself… considers him his everything.
Do you… really think Kaneki is going to harm Arima, his father’s lifeless body… after all he has been through trying not to lay a single finger on it? after knowing that his feelings were mutual?
arima let the butterfly go, he freed it and himself, he wasnt born; he was bred, he was used his entire life, devoid of all free will, never allowed to live at all, put into existence to die and bring death, he was the reaper, the god of the CCG, a cog in the machine thats slowly killing him, slowly killing himself, and his one choice in this life was the take his own, his life in his own hands, by his own hand, for the first and final time in one blow.
People ask a lot why Arima is one of my favorite characters– it’s his end that culminates all my enthusiasm for his character. He was walled off, closed up behind the secrets of the CCG, but there were hints, his foil to Kaneki giving hints at his inner thoughts, the teasing at his true character, and now we see it come into light- a man who never had a say in how he lived choosing how he is going to die. And it’s bittersweet, he hates himself, he hates what he had to be, what he had to do, but he couldnt stop. Death was his calling since birth.
And as we all heard from a wise pineapple once, if you become Death, you won’t be afraid of it anymore.
Arima became the Death god of the CCG. And he wasn’t afraid to die. Not even by his own hand.
What would Fura think if/when he finds out the truth?
He seems to have always been bothered with Arima’s situation. He asked Arima whether all ghouls were like Minami, longing to be human……but Arima avoided his question.
How would he feel, realizing his friend was like Minami the whole time – a ghoul trapped living on the edges of human society.
That there was SO MUCH that Arima wanted to tell him, but could only express through revealing his resignation over his situation. Telling Fura that he would probably die, sooner or later. Telling him that he simply did what he was told, and his job as an Investigator was merely “a hobby”. Letting him speak his peace with Minami, instead of simply killing her.
His reaction is going to be painful, thats all I can say…
With “King Bileygr”, she managed to catch the attention of many, many people. Her book made someone as loyal as Marude doubt the Washuus. And on top of everything, Marude revealed Yoshitoki’s identity in front of other investigators so there’s no way that this will stay hidden for long. How do you think the public will react when they find out that the CCG was trying to fill their heads with lies? Imagine how many people are going to follow Marude’s steps.
And even better for Eto… now that Kaneki has “defeated” Arima, the Reaper, he’s going to become an idol among ghouls. All of them will want to follow him as their leader. With the way things are going, I’m almost sure that Kaneki is going to become the OEK. It just fits too well. The name of the main character in “King Bileygr” being Nameless perfectly fits the pun with Haise’s name and Eto referring to Kaneki as her “child“ and “the Kakuja’s egg“ is another hint for this.
