A scrapped tarot/portrait of Arima that I decided to tidy up anyway bc ch67 set my heart on fire and kicked it down a flight of stairs.

In the story of tarot, the Fool sees a figure upon a white horse in the distance, which he instantly recognizes as Death. Upon approaching, he quietly asks “have I died?”

The figure, a skeleton clad in black armor, answers: “Yes, but only in a certain way. You have sacrificed your old self and your own world– they are both gone and dead. Keep in mind, however, that old leaves must wither and fall before a tree can blossom once more.”

As Death rides away, the Fool understands that all great transformations must begin with a clean slate to make room for new growth.

I think a lot of the fandom is repeating that same habit of the over simplification of characters and their relationships, again.

I’m specifically talking about the fandom’s reaction to Arima. And I’m not being biased by any means, even if he’s a character I enjoy.

As I see it we don’t have to label Arima as either good or bad. We don’t have to pick one because none of the characters have the characteristic to match either category. That’s because they’re all complex human beings with their own internal conflicts. TG is not as simple of a story for us to form biased black and white filters concerning the characters.

You can criticize their actions from the basis of your morals, but I doubt it’s wise to skew the story to better justify it. It fucks with the understanding of the plot people, you feel me?
