If you like my art, have respect for my art, or ANY other artist, please read this.

Wouldn’t this picture look a lot nicer without my name slapped all over it? Maybe, I don’t know, tucked in a corner, allowing you the viewing pleasure of my art… while at the same time, just a little off to the side, my tag quietly but proudly exclaims that I’ve drawn what you’re looking at?

It would be a lot easier on the eyes right? A lot less loud.

A lot less angry.

Now, I would love to do that… I would LOVE to colour and finish this picture, and share it with everyone, and just feel giddy and happy that so many of you love what I draw.

I’m ALWAYS happy to see so many of you LOVE what I draw. I love you all, and i’m astounded at the number of people supporting my art, and just being here to share the joy of our mutual fandoms and interests… I love you guys and appreciate you…

But what really grinds my gears is when people take my art. Whether it be un-edited or edited, then re-uploaded in any form of social media, like Instagram… vine… facebook. (I’m not saying don’t share with your own friends, please do, i’m sure they love what we love just as much! But don’t take it for your own. Remember that i put myself in my drawings… my time… effort…)

And you could guess, as this is a rant from SO MANY other artists on this damn site, and numerous others, that the next thing I’m about to say is “-and not add credit to me as the artist” …. you would think that, only that’s wrong 😀 !!!

One thing pisses me off more than this.

It’s Crediting someone else, or taking the credit for your self. Re-posting, editing, all that is one thing, but then taking what is mine -something that I have made with my own two hands- stripping it of my name, and putting your own on it is another.

I drew that hidekane comic a while ago. The one that started off as manga caption redraws -gestures vaguely- you know the deal, i’m sure you’ve seen it. It’s been re-posted and edited so many times, my head is spinning trying to track them all down.

As an example: There was this one really popular edit/vine, a nicely done one actually, by someone who goes by “Bakaneki” on vine. It’s put up and passed around by so many people on Instagram, it’s crazy, and ridiculous to think I can manage to nag everyone of them to not credit “Bakaneki”, but me instead. I drew that, and anyone can made a video in movie maker and slap it on vine, I did most of that bloody work, but there it is… their username on it… not mine… right in the corner of all my pictures.

I went on their vine, and I kindly asked them to give me credit, thinking “Hey this is the internet, try and be mature, and kind and courteous…you’re Canadian Em! Live up to it! haha!”

Everyone who credited Bakaneki, or re-posted my art said “Oh i’m sorry I didn’t know who the artist was!”

All of them.

Even Bakaneki! “Oh i’m sorry I didn’t know who this belonged to!” -And I had to fucking laugh about this at first, because that is such bullshit, they would have had to stare at my username/tag while they lovingly cropped each and every one of my pictures before puttin’ their own name on there. I politely said “thank you!” after they said they would put credit in the description, but I never saw it put in place after I asked, and i still don’t know if they did it. 
I just smiled and moved on. At least I asked. I can’t MAKE them do shit, but AT LEAST I asked. And here i have been, brooding about this subject for a little over a week, because i’m not satisfied with that.

Artists are pushed around and taken advantage of, and people force us to come in and feel like were bothering you to put our name on something WE MADE…

It pisses me off that people don’t take the time to find and source their things, and any artist who has their shit taken and distributed without their consent is! Not just me! And i’m about to blow peoples minds, specifically anyone who doesn’t do that shit, and it’s a very useful tool. I use it all the time!

It’s called google!!

Running with the example of my comic, you could search for it with the most basic and vague description, and you’d find it. No problem. Tumblr has a neat feature where you can look at popular tags for the certain content you want to view! Google itself, has an amazing feature where you can source an image! Literally trace it back to it’s bloody origins, and it takes a minute! Not even a minute, less than that.

”But Thea, you uploaded it, therefore people can do what they want with it!!!” -the people cry.

Well yes, they fucking can, but i’m not gunna like them! If they do it, they best know that i’m sitting here not exactly appreciating their existence. It’s my art, I drew it. It’s like my baby. Do you steal babies? If you do that makes you a very bad person.

So with that being said…

I would love to finish that picture up there, and upload it for people to see, only I can’t do anymore art and share with with people who aren’t on my skype unless I get this out there.

Let you all know that I’m really unhappy that this is happening, not just with that dumb comic-because this is not about that at the core. It is about ALL my art, all OTHER artists art, and our useless struggle against people who either want to hurt us on purpose…or do these things not knowing how much we fume and scream internally at them.

I’ll be adding a very annoying and unattractive note at the bottom of everything I post now asking for my things not to be re-posted or edited without permission and credit. I KNOW it will still happen, only now i’ll have a reason to be angry and not very polite when I ask people to take my things down and get their name off them.

I’m not an aggressive person… I hate starting shit, and this isn’t what this is. I’m just… I’ve been really disheartened the past week because I make things so I can share them with you guys… not so someone else can and leave me in the dust.
