white people trying to distract from the realities of africas suffering: “HGSJSDJ THE NEW :HISTORY OF” VIDEO HAS A RAPE JOKE. DONT WATCH IT”
yall literally went to africa and raped people. thats not a joke, its what yall did. shut up.
It was LITERALLY a rape of Africa- Europeans raped several cultures and countries. They went in, destroying culture dynamics, exterminated tribes, stole and raped and murdered and plundered and did everything disgusting and terrible.
I’m glad he called it for what it was. It wasn’t a fuckin joke m8.
This isn’t even him going out on a limb with his phrasing. This part of history is commonly, academically referred to as “the rape of Africa,” like “the rape of Nanking” or “the rape of Belgium.” That’s just…what it’s called.
he’s–making a reference to the academic concept. this isn’t your college buddy saying he got “totally raped” playing Halo last night, “the rape of Africa” is a phrase used in the explicit discussion of imperialist atrocities. a quick google will pull up everything from anti-colonialist art to books on King Leopold II’s crimes in the Congo; this information is literally at your fingertips, don’t start a witch hunt because you didn’t take the time to do a goddamn internet search.
This kinda shit makes me simultaneously feel “the bar is too low” and also “but we still have to say this shit because LOOK AT THE STATE OF AFFAIRS WE ARE IN.”
I’m tired.
It scares me that women are reinforcing this because it means that they expect to be abused by men and are dismissing it as a part of growing up.
The skeleton called the “Ring Lady” unearthed in Herculaneum (near Pompeii). 79 AD
Aprox 45 years old woman was found buried in ash with her gold jewellery: rings and braclets. This photo was made few hours after discovery. 2000 years old jewellery was in perfect condition.
“When I was a boy I’d skip school to sell roses on the street. My parents gave up trying to educate me. They said: ‘He’s lost his mind over the roses.’ I wanted to be around flowers all the time. I sold so many that I opened my own kiosk across from a famous country club. But I could never sell on Fridays. The police would close our entire street so the governor could visit the club. But once I ignored their instructions. It was the day before Mother’s Day. My biggest day of the year. So I took a chance and remained open. When the police found out, they confiscated all my flowers. They even took my license. It was a fatal blow. All my money was in those flowers. I had piles of them. So I had to start from zero. I’m a street vendor again. For awhile I was ashamed, but I’m fine with it now. It’s better than working for someone. I buy the roses I want, and sell them to whoever I want. Maybe I’ll have a shop again. But as long as I’m around my roses, I’ll always feel peaceful.” (Cairo, Egypt)
